At the same time, due to inconvenient maintenance and high maintenance cost, the design life of the gearbox is usually required to be 20 years, and the requirements for reliability are also extremely stringent. Because the size, weight and reliability are often a pair of irreconcilable contradictions, the design and manufacture of wind power gearbox is often in a dilemma. In the overall design stage, on the premise of meeting the requirements of reliability and service life, the transmission schemes shall be compared and optimized with the objective of minimum volume and weight; The structural design shall be based on the premise of meeting the transmission power and space constraints, and try to consider the simple structure, reliable operation and convenient maintenance; Ensure the product quality at every link of the manufacturing process; During operation, the operating status of the gearbox (bearing temperature, vibration, oil temperature and quality change, etc.) shall be monitored in real time and daily maintenance shall be carried out according to the specifications.

As the blade tip linear speed cannot be too high, the rated input speed of the gearbox gradually decreases with the increase of the unit capacity, and the rated speed of units above MW generally does not exceed 20r/min. On the other hand, the rated speed of the generator is generally 1500 or 1800r/min, so the speed ratio of the large wind power speed-up gearbox is generally about 75 ~ 100. In order to reduce the volume of the gear box, the wind power booster box above 500kW usually adopts the planetary transmission with power split; 500kW ~ 1000kW common structure has two forms: 2-stage parallel shaft +1-stage planetary transmission and 1-stage parallel shaft +2-stage planetary transmission; Megawatt gear boxes mostly adopt the structure of 2-stage parallel shaft +1-stage planetary transmission. Because the planetary transmission structure is relatively complex, and the processing of large internal gear ring is difficult and the cost is high, even if the two-stage planetary transmission is adopted, NW transmission is the most common form.
